Grand Music of Tang is a suite of 24 classical guitar pieces, each of which was inspired by a specific poem from the Tang Dynasty of China (618-907 AD). This work was commissioned by Japanese classical guitarist Mr. Kazuhito Yamashita in 1999. For No. 7. Welcome Rain in a Spring Night, the poem in Chinese and its English translation are shown below.
春 夜喜雨 (杜甫)

好雨知時節,
當春乃發生。
隨風潛入夜,
潤物細無聲。
野徑雲俱黑,
江船火獨明。
曉看紅濕處,
花重錦官城。
Welcome Rain in a Spring Night (Du Fu, 712-770 AD, China)

Good rain has come - what a delight!
At the onset of spring, the timing is right.
Drifting in with the wind throughout the night,
Silently it drenches everything in sight.
Clouds and fields are all black without the moonlight.
Lamps from river boats project the only light.
The wet red patches that we see at twilight …
Are flowers in Chengdu, heavier but bright.
