This piece was world-premiered at the Kaohsiung Music Hall on August 30, 2005, performed by Tzu-Shan Huang (soprano), Keishi Sumi (Guitar), and Yong-Pei Pan (double bass).

Program notes

The word “Mahabharata” is formed by combining “Maha” and “Bharata”. In Hindi “Maha” means great. “Bharata” is a celebrated emperor and monarch of India. Mahabharata refers to the great Indian empire. It is also an epic poem of ancient India that includes the Indian mythology and religious philosophy. The verse of this piece has only one word – Mahabharata. The structure of the music is developed by varying pitch, tone, tension and color of the voices.
